Creatively Linked Spotlight- Rose

Hi lovely people! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! Creatively Linked is a place where I spotlight women from around the world to share their creative talents & stories with you all!  It’s been a minute since my last feature because– well lets face it.. life happens. It has been an extremely busy summer! I turned 30 in March, did some traveling and I met some personal goals for the year that I had planned. All that to say, I am sorry for the delay on interviews but you will absolutely love this month’s spotlight!  Rose is such an inspiring woman full of pure talent and I can’t wait for you to meet her! Go get comfortable, grab your snacks and enjoy!

Rose is a beautiful young woman who is a full-time third generation functional potter.  When I saw Rose’s work on Instagram I knew I had to feature her, she is beyond talented with such a unique style & creativity. Capture+_2019-01-21-15-04-03Her pottery just makes you feel like being home all cozied up with some coffee/tea or hot chocolate. Thats how good her work is; it sparks imagination and comfort. Rose’s story on how she began following her dreams is something you would see in a movie. She shared everything from her fears to embarking on this journey to how it has paid off.  “From quitting my cubical desk job, moving to Montana for a year to train, and being a full time mom all at the same time – everything was so scary! I honestly cried my eyes out leaving my partner in Arizona for a year to keep our house going until I got back. I had so many panic attack moments but I knew that I had to do it. I listened to podcasts everyday for years at my desk job, and I hated my career choices. So one day I called my mom and I asked her if I could train with the family business for one year and bring it back to Arizona – and she said yes. Like most moms with a dream, my daughter was honestly my BIGGEST inspiration and I knew I had to follow my dream so I could show her that things like being an artist can become a reality.”  I seriously love this so much! It’s amazing to hear that she had the courage to leave her life in Arizona to go after a huge dream and whats even more inspiring is that her daughter has witnessed it all.  Her daughter can see that following your dreams is possible and that fear is a liar, this is so powerful to teach the young generation! Rose is a major #BossLady

Rose shared that her biggest accomplishment in pottery is that she learned how to throw pots extreamly fast (throwing- is the entire activity of shaping the clay on the potter’s wheel). “I worked every single weekend and weekday (I have not taken a day off in a full year) I learned very quickly and it has worked out to my advantage because it takes years of practice to become a good potter.”  I admire her work ethic, not having a day off in a year?! IMG_20181106_060145_279 Wow, that is unbelievable and shows her commitment and love for what she is doing. You go girl! Rose’s current goal is to be able to run her own business here in Arizona all while thriving financially and exceeding what she made with her previous career. She also plans to open up a full studio to do workshops and teach classes in the future.  I have 100% confidence that she will do all these things and more; when you have as much determination as this woman the only thing to do is succeed and crush your goals!  If you are located in Arizona, Rose will actually be participating in the Gilbert Art Walk starting October 5th 2019, go support and check her out!

When I asked Rose if what she is doing now what she always wanted to do when she was growing up? She replied, “No way! I always wanted to be a artist but pottery was far from what I ever expected.”  I then followed up with asking her if you could go back in time and speak to yourself when you were a child, what would you tell yourself and or what advice would you give? She said she would tell herself to “begin pottery younger… don’t wait.”

Rose’s favorite quote:

“If it costs you your peace, it’s too expensive”

Rose’s mission statement for her life:

“Your work is your love made visible”

-Khalil Gibran

Fun Facts about Rose:

  • If you didn’t have to sleep what would you do with your extra time? “Ooohh! So many things! Go on way more hiking trips with the family!”
  • If someone heard your favorite playlist on apple music/ spotify (etc) how would they describe you? “A wanna be gangster lol sad, but true.”
  • What is your favorite trait about yourself? “This is a hard question… Probably my ability to be completely exhausted and still play with my daughter.”
  • What skill would you like to master? “There are so many things with pottery! I want to learn how to crystalline glazes! They amaze me and are so beautiful.”

Rose is the definition of determination and grit, she has worked so hard to accomplish her dreams and to provide a better life for her family and it is so inspiring. It is insane to think she has accomplished all of this in just a little over a year, I can’t imagine what she will accomplish in the next 5 years! If you were in need of some motivation I am sure after you read Rose’s story you are feeling inspired.  It was such a blessing to be able to get to know her better and share her incredible story with you all.
