Hey friends! Welcome back to Creatively Linked! If this is your first time visiting my blog thank you so much for stopping by! Creatively Linked is a place where I spotlight women from around the world & share their creative talents & stories with you all! This month’s spotlight is dedicated to a very talented, inspiring & beautiful woman named Theresa. Theresa and I connected via Instagram a while back and I just fell in love with her poetry & her creativity. She is an extremely talented writer who is full of wisdom & grace, I just can’t wait to share her story with you! Now go get comfortable & grab your snacks because it’s going to be a good one.
Theresa is known in Arizona for her beautiful poetry and her amazing creative expression. Theresa has been featured in showcases, podcasts, she has won poetry contests, she has performed her poetry in a moving train from Oakland to San Francisco & performed at Fisherman’s Warf in front of hundreds of pedestrians. She also has performed at a speaking engagement at a university & lastly, she is a model! Wow, this girl is a star and a true performer! I can’t believe she has accomplished all of this at such a young age, she is such an inspiration. I love that she is able to share her poetry with the world and she is not afraid to do so! Her passion is truly refreshing and if you have not checked her out you must do so after reading this spotlight. I personally love meeting other writers who are so passionate about their craft; it truly inspires me. So before I continue I would just like to say thank you Theresa for inspiring me, it is a huge honor!
When I asked Theresa what her biggest fear was before she accomplished all these amazing goals– she stated “public speaking was my biggest fear.” I was so surprised by this because if you have seen her work she doesn’t seem scared to speak in front of a crowd at all. Theresa shared how she got over her fear was by placing herself in the environment that she feared the most, which was right before the audience with a mic to help project. Hearing this made me so nervous for her! I can just picture it now, sitting in the room with all the performers, reciting your poem in your head & hoping you don’t mess up.. sweating… biting your nails and then being handed the microphone when it is your turn and realizing “ok, I am going on the stage to perform my piece.” Sounds so intense! It is incredible how she was able to overcome her fear by just going out there and doing the very thing that scared her. Not many people can do this and for that reason I think Theresa is a total BOSS BABE full of courage! As someone who personally doesn’t like talking in front of large crowds I can totally relate to that fear and I am constantly working on overcoming it; its nice to hear how she got over it & see that it is possible to overcome! You go girl!
I asked her if what she is doing now what she always wanted to do growing up and she replied “I was never 100% sure of what I wanted to do as I was growing up, but I have always been a performer. Whether it was dance or choir, or even drama. If I could go back in time and give my younger self advice, I would say, never doubt your ability to achieve what you set your mind to. Only you can hold yourself back enough to be considered a failure for not trying. Be patient with yourself but still push beyond what you think your limits are.” I love this! Be patient but still push your limits, that is so profound! I am sure all of you reading this are taking notes because I definitely am! Theresa shared that her goal for her life is to travel the world speaking life and inspiration to people through the art of poetry and love. This is such a lovely goal to have and I admire that she is driven by sharing love with other people; it really shows that she has an amazing character. Theresa stated she has also been making connections with other platforms for artists in other areas like Los Angeles, Oakland, Sedona and Tucson. “My goal is to bring awareness to all that’s happening here in the Phoenix art scene and bridge the gap with surrounding areas” she said. Theresa has accomplished so much already it is hard to believe there is anything else left to do. Well…. she actually has done one more impressive thing! She recently had the opportunity to create a song that is available on all platforms like Apple music and Soundcloud. The song is called “No Stress” ft. Lewis Santana. Theresa sings and recites a poem in the song & you should definitely go check it out. Girl, you are killing the game!
I was very curious to find out what inspires Theresa since she is always creating & she shared that as of lately, her inspiration has been the community of artists that she surrounds herself with. “There is such a wide spectrum of self expression that I am just in awe of. From music, to dance, to fashion, film, and the list goes on. I’ve always seen the beauty in everything but seeing how everyone else see’s beauty is inspiring as well.”
Theresa’s mission statement for her life:
“Is to spread love. We need more of it. More compassion, more understanding, and more appreciation of our differences.”
Theresa’s favorite quote is:
“You’re alright”.
–Theresa shared what this really means to her: “I literally use it everyday. To myself, to my child, to my friends. It may seem insensitive at times but it’s just a simple reassurance without the lecture. I feel that in today’s times people are constantly being pushed and pulled in different directions, being pressured to be perfect at everything. If my child falls and skids her knee, I help her back up and tell her, “You’re alright, keep going.” With this reassurance, she knows she can keep going and is just as confident in herself as I am in her.”
Fun facts about Theresa
- “If I didn’t have to sleep, I would work on my artistry with my spare time. I’d continue to explore better ways for me to do what I already do.”
- “If someone heard my favorite playlist in Apple Music or Spotify, they would say that I am such a laid back person. I listen to a lot of neo-Soul, R&B, Trap R&B, and some hip hop when I feel like being a little extra that day.”
- “I would like to master playing an instrument. My top three instruments to master are the drums, acoustic guitar, and my voice. I wish I was a better singer.”
When I asked Theresa if she had any last words that she would like to share with you all she replied “I enjoy expressing in every way because I am a person that struggles with expression. I feel like as artists we express to communicate with people in a way that fits us. Some may understand it and some may not but, in those rare moments where someone can connect with me through my own expression, to where I feel understood, and that person can as well. That makes it worth it.” I really appreciate her honesty and transparency here as I can totally relate. Sometimes its way more easier to express our feelings through poetry and writing. I can guarantee that she has touched so many peoples lives with her poetry and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her. She is full of talent, beauty, wisdom and she exudes love. Theresa is definitely Creatively Linked!
